Chapter 2 : The comf is on

After a long week of events, no internet and mental incapacity to transfer photos, it is time to finally reflect on recent events.

Following the previous historical event known as the Comfy Hunt, it is time to take a step towards the future. Last weekend, I visit around the place and went to the famous Umeda station. In case you don't know, the Osaka/Umeda station is the biggest hub of "core" Osaka. Many, many train lines end up here, so hundreds of thousands of people pass through this station everyday. Isn't that amazing ? Well, probably, but that's not why I came here for this time.

The place of interest was Yodobashi Camera. This famous place is a gigantic commercial building where you can find pretty much anything related to electrical or electronical equipment. Cameras, TVs, smartphones, video games, you name it. It goes even further by including several other kinds of areas like manga. This one building is specifically called Yodobashi Umeda and honestly, it's hard to miss whenever you go through Umeda station. But I already talked about that, haven't I ? So let's get down to business, this time I went to buy some VIDEO GAMES. Specifically, Dai Gyakuten Saiban caught my interest, so I got it here. Might not be the cheapest place to get it, but hey ! No worries. I'm rich ! (spoiler : I'm not, I'm just irresponsible)

I took the opportunity to snap some pictures of this blessed place. Believe it or not, there are places even more dedicated to video games, to which I am planning on going to sooner or later, and I definitely won't miss on writing an article about it this time.

Because I have a lot to talk about, let's move on to the next thing that will probably be boring, but I can't not mention it : the initial purpose of my visit, the internship itself ! Well, it was to be expected, but the really strict policy prevents me from talking about it, almost at ALL, much less snapping pictures of the place. So you'll just have to take my word that it is indeed very interesting. However, it's not like every minute of it is exciting, in fact I'm easily bored about halfway in the day, but not only the finality of my work is very interesting and, in fact, useful, but there are some parts where it's almost "hype" and I get really invested for a couple hours. So yeah, the experimentation/developing part is great, but figuring out how to do it first is just a major borefest. Any more than that would break NDA so I'll keep it at that.

On Tuesday, I finally moved to Comfy HQ : my own apartment ! For you to understand how exciting this is, this is my first time travelling and living alone at the same time. So far, everything has been kind of an adventure in unknown territory, but not that much either because there's a lot of people willing to help me here and there. My apartment is honestly a very nice place. Quite spacious for a lone gaijin like myself, clean and well equipped, what's not to love. The first night was a bit rough. In fact, when I arrived, I came to the realization that nothing was present. Nothing for cooking, nothing for cleaning, not even toilet paper. While I fell asleep on the (very flat) mattress, I tried to list everything I needed for the next day. And that included a goddamn ETHERNET CABLE, because when I signed the contract, I was unaware that Internet wasn't referring to Wi-Fi. My bad... it's also why I didn't have internet for a while.

On Wednesday after work, it was time to act. And that's when I discovered the godly gift of 100 yen shops. While I live a bit far from the Sone station where I take the train everyday (about 20 minutes of walking) to go to work, I can at least say that there's a fair amount of convenient places around, being mostly 2 supermarkets, 2 100 yen shops and a handful of restaurants. Well, at least I won't starve to death here. Getting back to those 100 yen shops, as I previously mentioned it's just wonderful. 100 yen saucepan. 100 yen plates and cutlery. 100 yen ethernet cable ! Basically, I bought everything but food that day. I would have loved to do my grocery shopping as well, but sadly I only have 2 arms and 20 minutes of walking to my apartment. That being said, they do have food too ! Mostly snacks and condiments, and of course cheap tasting, but 100 yen is 100 yen, right ? (Well, actually, it's actually 108 yen because of taxes)

As I slurped my instant noodles in front of my computer that finally had access to the internet, I told myself that life had its good moments, and I'm probably in one of those.

Thursday and Friday weren't really that exciting. I got to do something different on both evenings though, respectively mass grocery shopping (pasta, instant noodles, milk, eggs...) and buying a kind of food I haven't tasted in Japan yet : takoyaki ! It wasn't my first time takoyaki, but oh god was it good, not to mention obviously way cheaper that takoyaki @ japanese-themed conventions. Overall very comfy nights.

That week, I also got to discover one of Japan's most treasured secrets : Japanese television. The most specific aspect of it is that almost every show has to be a comedy at some point. They do have serious ones, and even sometimes tearjerking, but it seems that there is a lot of focus on comedy or even comic relief. While those seem forced most of the time, almost every time there are reaction shots to whatever's playing on the show. Not disturbing, but sometimes awkward when they look forced to react in some way.

And here we are. It's lunchtime and I am writing this in my pajamas. Starting from this afternoon, I will go to explore another special place. But I'll keep the surprise for next time, obviously. So let's just end this with my beautiful photo took in front of Sone station !
